The RTDS installation at TU Delft consists of 8 racks with 10 PB5 and 36 3PC cards, capable of simulating grids in 2 Āµs and 50 Āµs step size.Additionally the racks have analog/digital I/O, remote I/O, two GTNetx2, and one GTSync card. The RTDS Simulator allows to test protection and con-trols in real time, where an hour in the real world equals an hour in the simulator. Utilizing modular custom computing hardware and software, simulations performed encompass results from DC up to electromagnetic transients. Inherently, these results include information regarding the system load flow and transient stability, as well as that of harmonics and faster disturbances.
The Institute of Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Energy Economics (ie3) is one of the leading German higher education institutes in the field of energy systems, energy efficiency and energy economy with the focus on electrical networks. The institute emerged out of the amalgamation of the Chair of Energy Systems and Energy Economy by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Rehtanz together with the RWE endowed professorship in Energy Efficiency and the related field of work of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johanna Myrzik. Researches and studies solve technical and economic problems for a reliable and sustainable electricity system of the future.
As part of the Technical University of Dortmund, the institute receives public funding and has established cooperation with industry partners like RWE, Innogy, Amprion, Westnetz and PSI. The 1000mĀ² lab is currently used by 40 employees of the institute and for the research activities a power range up to 160kW is available. In the years 2016 and 2017, large further expansions of the laboratory are planned.
Within the University of Cyprus, FOSS is the center of excellence focusing on renewable energy sources (RES) and in particular solar energy, energy efficiency and smart electricity grid. The centre is currently equipped with a state-of-the-art facility for monitoring and evaluation of PV technologies and Advanced Metering Infrastructure and is currently progressing with further installations for completing a large microgrid covering the energy needs of the University. This will transform the University campus to one of the few green campuses in Europe.
