TECNALIA Research & Innovation is the first private Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) organization in Spain and one of the leading ones in Europe, with a staff of 1500 experts (including 192 Doctors), 22 headquarters and a turnover of 120 million Euro.The mission of TECNALIA is to transform knowledge into GDP, improving people’s quality of life by generating business opportunities for companies. To accomplish this, TECNALIA is organised in 7 interconnected sectorial Divisions: Energy and Environment Division, Sustainable Construction Division, Industry and Transport Division, ICT – European Software Institute Division, Innovation Strategies Division, Health Division, and Technological Services Division.TECNALIA’s offer includes different activities: technological services, testing and certification, R&D&I projects, transfer of industrial property, business promotion, business diversification, innovation management and foreign support.

Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust of the University of Luxembourg targets research and PhD education. SnT fosters interaction and collaboration with industrial, international, and government partners. The Centre’s strategic research agenda is formed around interdisciplinary research platforms (IRP) that provide an interface to external partners and a forum to define and launch research projects. SnT\’s Netpower Lab provides infrastructure for the implementation of prototype nano or micro grids based on a number of freely programmable voltage source inverters in the range of 5-10kVA. Netpower Lab is designed to integrate different communication devices, particularly with realtime or industrial busses (SCADA systems) controlling the power units.

The University of Seville is an institution with more than five centuries of history that have left a legacy of renowned academic tradition and a unique cultural heritage. Currently, its main asset is the extensive university community made up of more than 70.000 students, 4.400 professors and 2.400 administrative professionals.

The Institute for Energy and Environment (InstEE) represents one of Europe’s largest power systems and energy technology university research groups. Comprising 32 members of academic staff, over 200 research staff and students, and 18 technical and administrative colleagues, the Institute has four main research groups: Advanced Electrical Systems, High Voltage Technology, Power Electronics Drives and Energy Conversion, Wind Energy and Control. There are 45 bespoke, state of the art laboratories across key research themes of energy, health, manufacturing, and future cities – which support innovation and research demonstration. This is complemented by the Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC) which hosts a fully operational HV and LV demonstration network and dedicated team of research, technical and support staff.

EnergyVille is an association of the Flemish research institutes KU Leuven, VITO, imec and UHasselt in the field of sustainable energy and intelligent energy systems. Our researchers provide expertise to industry and public authorities on energy-efficient buildings and intelligent networks for a sustainable urban environment. This includes, for example, smart grids and advanced district heating and cooling.
One of the objectives of EnergyVille is to become one of the top five European institutes in innovative energy research. In this context, the center was embedded in major national and international networks right from the start. It covers research, development, training and innovative industrial activities under one name and in close collaboration with local, regional and international partners.
EnergyVille aims to be a driver in the Thor science park in Genk in the areas of research, business development and employment creation. The research center is supported by the city of Genk, the Flemish Government, LRM, POM Limburg and the European structural funds.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is a globally networked multi-technological contract research organization. VTT provides high-end technology solutions and innovation services that enhance the customers’ competitiveness, thereby creating prerequisites for society’s sustainable development, employment, and wellbeing.

ECN is the main institute for energy research in The Netherlands. ECN develops high-quality knowledge and technology for the transition to a sustainable energy supply, and introduces this technology to the market. ECN’s focus is on energy conservation, renewable energy and an efficient and clean use of fossil fuels.evelops high-quality knowledge and technology ECN Solar Energy, with its staff of 85 experts, offers a wide range of R&D activities on PV materials and -processing technologies, cell- and module design. These are available for transfer and implementation on laboratory-, pilot- and production scale. Our extensive facilities for solar cell processing and characterisation are well suited to study almost all R&D issues currently relevant for the PV industry.

The European Commission`s Joint Research Centre (JRC) has a significant activity in the field of photovoltaics, which takes place in the Renewable Energy unit of the Institute for Energy. A major feature is the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI), which is a European reference laboratory for the verification of the power and energy generation of photovoltaic devices. Within the SOPHIA project, JRC is leading the networking sub-task on energy prediction and participate in the joint research activity on module lifetime, as well as offering access to its facilities.

Jülich is an interdisciplinary, publicly funded research center with a staff of about 5.000 members working on the areas of health, energy and environment. One of the institutes at Jülich, the IEK5-Photovoltaik, concentrates its work on thin film silicon solar cells and related materials for several decades. Jülich Supercomputing Center JSC operates several high performance supercomputers. Access to on of these supercomputers is provided via Sophia trans national access.

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) operates two scientific large scale facilities for investigating the structure and function of matter: the research reactor BER II for experiments with neutrons and the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II. In the department of solar energy our scientists are working on the next generation of solar cells, including new kinds of materials and innovative cell structures. As cofounder of the Photovoltaic Competence Centre (PVcomB) HZB supports the technology transfer to the industry.
